About Darren Sutton Jewellery

Born in Birmingham England. From an early age he was drawing and painting, Darren began to take an interest in Art & Design. Early in his career he worked in the construction industry, hand painting bespoke kitchens and applying specialist paint & plaster finishes to high end interiors. In his spare time he continued painting onto canvas using oils & acrylics. Darren then started to paint onto aluminium sheet. While buying the aluminium sheet from the metal merchants, Darren came across copper, brass and bronze sheet and started to use these for his artwork with the use of chemicals to create different patination & colours. After a good while the chemicals became limited in their use, but Darren liked and enjoyed working with the metals, so he thought about working with silver and this began the journey of learning to make jewellery. Fascinated by the skilled craftsmen & craftswomen of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, Darren learnt silversmithing and wax modelling to develop his skills, though he is mainly a self-taught jeweller.

Darren is inspired by modernist culture, this together with natural artistic abilities, Darren designs and creates unique modern jewellery for women & men. Each piece of jewellery is at the bench using traditional techniques, recycled sterling silver & recycled 9ct & 18ct gold and precious & semi precious gemstones.
